I-Web project proposal
"Technology and ELA Learning"
www.web.mac.com/veganova
Production Schedule:
April 14th: Meet with Prof. Sarver to collaborate ideas. Expand on my initial idea and continue to pool resources together.
April 15th: Create a way of organizing the website. Go through blog and try and use peers work to strengthen the website.
April 17th: Begin to synthesize all the resources.
April 22nd: Still trying to find a way to organize the site to acheive the highest quality of work.
Content: The purpose of this project is to create a comprehensive website for "Technology and ELA Learning". Over the course of this semester we have explored various issues pertaining to the relevance of technology in an ELA classroom. While there are many valuable sources available on the Internet, these sources are scattered and take time to find. The content of this website will organize these sources in to a relevant and definitive basis for secondary education teachers to reference. These sources will pull from the work of my peers and that of other credible contributors from the Internet. It is hoped that by organizing the work of many into one definitive webpage, I can create a lasting contribution to the ELA community.
Audience: The intended audience for the webpage would be secondary education teachers and undergraduate/graduate students. The site will help actual teachers learn to implement new technologies into their classrooms with relevance and ease. Since technologies seem to be taken up by the students sooner than the teachers, this site will help keep the curriculum up-to-date. Furthermore, it will give explicit examples of technology aiding in the development of the critical skills of ELA. Also, the site will be beneficial to future teachers (students of any level) who may be inspired by some of the innovative teaching techniques that are showcased. Lastly, the audience should extend to any person who is some way involved in ELA learning. This can be a school board member who doesn't see the prudence in allotting money for technology in an English language arts classroom; or a parent wondering if their school taxes are going someplace useful.
Purpose: The purpose of the website is to create a definitive source on "Technology and ELA Learning". There is no comprehensive source tailored specifically to the needs of teachers in the field; this project intends to create that source. It will not only showcase the outstanding work of my peers but also that of experts/scholars into an accessible and applicable website. It is hoped that this will be beneficial to teachers and students alike. Also, I intend this webpage to last long after this class is complete, and continue to contribute to the needs of ELA students.
Format: The format for my project will be a webpage created in the application I-Web. A webpage is universally accessible and this one will be a plethora of knowledge on the subject. Unlike the malleability of a wiki, or opinion-based blogs, a webpage is fact based and permanent. The pages will include a comprehensive examination of the topic and present it in easily digestible portions. It is hoped that this will create a go-to place for people involved with technology and ELA learning.
Examples:
Medialiteracy.org
This site is an example of what I am trying to produce. Its profesional presentation and informative content is something I hope to emulate and ultimatley top.
Context: The webpage is necessary because no source exists like it. I propose to create a definitive place for ELA teachers to reference in making their classrooms technologically up-to-date. The relevance of creating a page like this is to make whomever views it aware of the benefits technology can have in giving students the critical skills of ELA. This will make teachers better prepared to teach a changing student body, and with the information the website will provide, able to integrate new technologies into an aging curriculum.
Contribution: As stated before, this webpage will become a definitive source for those involved in ELA education. Dealing with issues of technology and the ELA curriculum, it is hoped this project will be helpful to students and teachers alike. Because there is no site that is comprehensive on the subject this site will be a significant milestone beyond the deadlines of this assignment. I hope the site will outlast this semester and make a positive contribution to the topic.
